Dr. Christal speaks candidly about performing robotic-assisted surgery with the CORI System and the impact of using the CORI™ Digital Tensioner and RI.INSIGHTS™, a data visualization platform.
Using the digital tension now to determine exactly what our gaps are consistently throughout range. Emotion allows us to plan very accurately for our bony resections and what I found in my hands is that it provides a very predictable outcome at the end of each case. Uh when we go back and remeasure those gaps, it's exactly where we wanted them to be previous to the tension. We all found that sometimes those gaps would change throughout the case as you were doing releases and a lot of it would depend on how hard you were tension in the knee, uh beforehand on the medial lateral side. So, objective gap measurement when you're planning for your implants is extremely important. Uh You know, for a lot of years, we've been treating that rather subjectively, you know, using our eyes and our hands to kind of determine what the best fit is for a knee. But now being able to have a very discrete amount of tension applied on each side of the knee, measuring that gap to within a millimeter or less planning your implant, ex putting it exactly where you want it. Uh And then knowing that at the end of the case, it's gonna be, you know, exactly what you planned is very comforting and I think results in great outcomes for these patients. The core platform uh has really been revolutionary in both robotics as well as arthroplasty in general. Uh It is allowing us to perform surgery, uh predictably and reliably time and time again, we're able to plan out the surgery exactly the way we want it with our gaps and our tensions. Uh beforehand, we can execute that plan and we're certain that we're going to end up with the result that we plan for at the end of the day. Uh the advent of the digital tension now as it's coming out is only increasing uh the accuracy that we have in planning uh our total joints. Uh instead of uh some guess work that went into how hard you're pushing or pulling on the knee or perhaps you use uh an instrument of some kind to distract uh the joint. Uh There's a lot of unpredictability with uh those types of approaches with the digital tension. We're able to apply uh a very specific amount of force to both sides of the joint to distract it. Uh just as much as we want to. And that can be reproduced from case to case and between surgeons allowing for a lot of power in both reproducibility, but also data analysis down the road.
